       revised  10/24 /2005

    The possibilities are, theoretically unlimited.

The First Thing a webmaster is supposed to include in the site is
a groovy list of LINKS to the other "kewl" like-minded sites.
Protocol and "netiquette" demands that these surfin' tips be shared with you...

      all right... eat our bookmarks:

      EXTRA AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL

...in The World of Virtual Fraud.
      (
Remember: you're NØT going anywhere sitting
in front of some video monitor. Pathetic.

on't you hate this web-vertized hype? Enough editorializing. Let's look at some great sites.
      Unclassifiable
and unique is what characterizes most of this selection,
so you won't find handy labels and categories, although, grudgingly, we've separated
"Bands & Performers" as a group at the bottom of the list
      .

      SITE OF THE MONTH:
Wow: Daniel Mendel-Black's KULTUREDROME is a trip and a half.
It's art, political commentary and literture all wrapped together.
Psychedelicized visions of cultural forces in turmoil abound.

Scary, though-provoking and funny all at once.

A previous SITE OF THE MONTH:
Coolest artist site online: Anthony Ausgang draws influence from as many "outside" channels as possible, preferring the toy contents of grocery store gumball machines over the latest exhibit at the Whitney. Opinionated but informed, he is able to see the beauty in a Rembrandt or last year's rusty primer gray finish. This variety of interest has led him to design his artwork on the computer but complete it on the easel, the perfect combination of new technology and traditional media.

Another previous SITE OF THE MONTH:
      Queer Art Resource
offers galleries and archives of dozens of artists. There's an excellent documentary on Harvey Milk, too. The QAR website brings queer art and culture to thousands of people in more than 70 nations around the world. If you like the site as much as we do, you're invited to become a member and support its further development.

Another previous SITE OF THE MONTH:
      TVparty.com (obscure '80's music collection):
No, it's not a transvestite party. It's about classic television shows.. AND Billy Eye and Judy Zee have archived an excellent group sound clips (formerly posted on Homeroom.com) and details regarding some of the bands theoretical covets... Red Wedding, 17 Pygmies, Kommunity FK.

      Wassssssssssssssssup in San Francisco (underground)?
Check out Laughing Squid. Wild art with insightful analysis.

weirdotronix is great little diary of authentic Southern California Punk music and culture from the '70's and '80's as created by one Scott Mitchell. Ramones, GezaX, Suburban Lawns, X, Dickies, Mechanics, Rhino 39, 999, Kingbees, Plugz, Flyboys, X, Big Wow, Weirdos, The Crowd, Ramones, Suburban Lawns, Angry Samoans, Adolescents, The Brat, TSOL, Savage Republic, etc., etc.
      Discovered by Barry Spradling. Thanks!

Al Slammer (who describes himself as "an old punk") recently wrote from England regarding the death of his friend and poet DREW BLOOD (shown with doll) who died back in June 1998. The site is a simple and direct testimonial that we find quite noteworthy and powerfully sincere at: www.holytitclamps.com/drew   Portions will be edited into a West Wing memorial soon, but the whole story, as far it goes online is a journey worth taking, thanks to Mr. Slammer there in the U.K.

Also of note is the domain that hosts Drew's pages... www.holytitclamps.com This is a deeply cynical and sarcastic trip (hence theoretically approved), and well worth taking, too. "Larry-Bob's Generic Queer Pages" are a must! The humor is dark and bitter. It stings and rants and attacks most of queer presence on the web.  Good work, starting with...
"Slap together some rainbow flag gifs, pictures of naked guys, and a whole bunch of links to other gay sites with no more actual content than your own. You can probably make your own generic gay homepage in less than an hour.

      I did. "

Tomata's online! at www.tomataduplenty.com there's a very friendly up-close and personal site documenting some of the work of this great painter.
Tomata, left w/ pal Rob at Labor Day BBQ 1999

This guy is one of the founders of The Screamers:
L.A.'s first real over-the-top punk band (about 1978-80). He mostly paints quick portraits of pop culture heros.
Tomata passed away on August 21, 2000.
      Details on: tomataobit.html

another previous Site of the Month...  "T.I.T."

This is one refreshing, funny, informative site! TIT is Tyrants In Therapy , the longliving always evolving on-the-mark completely original Punk Caberet act that everyone must see in person to fully appreciate. Theoretical pals Abbe and Micheal are the insightfully talented folks who've finally got this noteworthy website "up." (And we apologize for taking this long to get this review/link up) Their gigs, discopgraphy, testimonials and all the promo things a performance art team should have are there. But they've done it better than anyone because it's packed with personal wit and charm. I love TIT-jm

Theoretical pal CRAIG ROOSE has created an online catalog of his cool jewelry and stuff at: www.eldoradoclub.net . "Here we are dedicated to producing affordable, stylish jewelry with Design cues inspired by past eras. We offer a variety of popular themes for the purest of purists."

HotEye is a hot Australian art site that features a monthly eZine that includes in-depth interviews with practicing artists from all over the world. Good work.

      HEADWOUND whoa!
This is not for the weak or squeamish.
Guts, gore, cruelty, freaks and mutations.
And that's just in the free part of this very sick site which presents its material in a style akin to many porno sites.

GODmagazine is a brilliant websurfer's diary of the best stuff he, artist X-8, finds every month.
      GOD
is a monthly photozine compiled of (mostly) full screen high resolution images selected from
the worldwide web. It is a magazine without words. Excellent work. Beautiful discoveries.

      X-8's online Gallery
Personal exorcism is the theme in this artist/musician's site. Check it out.

      Survival Research Labs
A big site that documents this legendary experiment in
      performance art.

      Church of The SubGenius:
Performance art as a religion that mocks all religions with
      Divine Shit
      as a sacred consumer commodity.
Pink Boys run the not-so-straight corporate world,
      "sickenings" replace "healings" while
Rants replace sermons with jargon that's clearly
hatched from a psychedelic view of things.
The "SubSITE" is a... "BRAIN TOOLKIT AND SURREALITY REBOOT."

GHOST CITY won some kind of award at the annual freewaves show we saw at the Museum of Contemporary Art (L.A.) recently. Most worthy. A cold and lonely pseudo-reality of the contemporary deconstructed urban experience has been created here. This is art specific to and only appreciated as a website.

      Artist superstar KEITH HARING
is remembered with a variety of cool homages
at this Keith Haring Foundation site.

Abstract-Art.com is a site that features samples of some the best of the "less is more" (except when it comes to color) crowd. Artists like Larry Bell, Ron Davis and theoretical friend DON SORENSON are all represented in this large and growing archival setting.
A nest of current club things can be found at: BRAINEX.COM where Saturday night at Silverlake's Garage present's "SPIT," an ongoing drag soap opera "The Plush Life"is staged at Rudolfo's Restaurant (Silverlake), and our favorite: "DRAGSTRIP 66" described as having "one of THE most friendly crowds in Los Angeles, and the pansexual mix of its patrons is a sight to behold. You never know what to expect when you step in the door, and it's also become clear, that the patrons are indeed the show, too!"

was evidence that an authentic underground L.A. culture still exists. But ENDLESS has recently ended. Stan, we miss you.

      AL's is closed!
A nd now the site's gone, too.
      Cynical cleverness lives.

PLANET-OUT is the biggest commercial queer site online. theoretical2.com was chosen "site of the day" last Saturday, February 21, 1998 (1st anniversary of THIS site). Thanks
FREEWAVES is an alternative artists' site (though the organization seems perhaps too committee burdened) which is currently offering free Internet classes around Southern California and an annual citywide festival every September.
      FRESHLY WRAPPED CANDIES
is a continuing experiment in art and music that powerfully charms without a hint of pretentiousness (which plagues too many "art" bands).Check out the bass guitar/axe/art thing.
      Good sound clips 'n' stuff...

FRANK MOORE's "EROPLAY" is a hotbed of joyous erotic art and Berkeley style politics. This performance artist's work is well documented and the site itself should be seen as a continuing performance. Frank's "salon" is an ongoing dialog (via eMail) among a wide ranging group of free thinkers.
SHANTI is   a wealth of services for those affected by the continuing HIV/AIDS crisis (which too many seem to believe is over). This site documents the services available in San Francisco. Similar services- especially peer counseling- are available in Los Angeles, too.
FLIRT is   a brilliantly designed virtual blind date where you can be yourself or someone else and meet the same or other, virtually or really. Gay or straight.

CORTICAL an esoteric new music site representing the archival work of GARY TODD.

    • Bands & Performers
    • Fat & Fucked-Up has joined our list of remembered artists with a small tribute created by theoretical in collaboration with founders Michael Intriere and Josie Roth.

    • GRENPETR
    • The Band is long gone. But founder Peter Wesley Bastone continues on with his own inspired work in poetry, music and even a radio/cable TV show from his home base in Enfield, Connecticut and his current enterprise: www.netshows.us .

    • KRAFTWERK's site
is a lot of fun with robot men dancing to the digital "musik" that spawned today's Euro disco.

    • PARTY BOYS ...the legendary artband theoretical often featured is now being documented online... and theoretical is hosting the pages!  This is the band that Craig Lee, on first viewing called "pretentious poop" one week (L.A. Times) and then did a complete about face on a second viewing two weeks later calling them "...wildly creative with the power to induce a trance-like euphoria..." (L.A. Weekly).

    • POPDeFECT A very cool band consisting of a group of guys who just keep doing good shows and frolic in a legacy of not ever getting signed. They're shamelessly straight but we love them anyway. A "beery" bunch says the L.A. Weekly, but their vision is strong, consistent and defies labels.
